Chapter 3: Create a straight through cable and RJ-45 Jack

This lab was fun, yet humbling.  I thought that I would have this done in a snap, which was not the case.  To make a straight through cable you need  Cat 5 cable about 10-15 feet for this project,  two RJ-45 connectors, a crimper, wire strippers and a cable tester.
I started by striping the end off of the cable and separating my wires.  Then you place the wires in the correct order, then you have to trim the ends so that they are the same length.  Next you push the cables into the RJ-45 connector, making sure that the wires touch the end so there will be a good connections.  If your connection is good then you can crimp it and repeat on the other end of the cable.

The next lab was to create a RJ-45 jack.  For this lab you need wire strippers, RJ-45 jack and a punch down.    This lab was easier than the first for me.  You only have to strip off the end of the cable and match the wires to picture on the side of the jack, then use the punch down to secure the wires in place.
